SAYACINTAINDONESIA — Does your life feel cramped? What activities can you do? If you feel that way, you may be putting yourself in a bubble. That is, you limit yourself to seeing more broadly, you only devour what is in front of your eyes. So, what can you do to pop the bubble? The answer is reading the News. Just read the news? Really? doesn’t it just make it more boring? This time, I will tell you what you can get from reading the news.
Why Read the News?
Open and Critical Mind
Why can reading the news get us out of our bubble? By knowing issues beyond our eyes, we will realize that the world is always moving. You will see something new every day. Remember, there are hundreds of countries and trillions of people on this earth. You will never run out of news, so you have plenty of time to catch up!
Improve Language Skills
By reading often you will also improve your literacy skills. Most likely you will come across terms that you did not know before. And information like that will be very useful especially if you are in school. You don’t need to bother anymore to ask here and there to do your essay assignment.
Do you often use Twitter? According to what I see, Twitter is such a news platform. Why? Lots of information uploaded on twitter from the news, there will be a response. From the various responses, arguments and emotions will emerge. Just by following the issues on twitter means that you have opened yourself up to reading the news. Next step, build a habit to read the news.
How to Build a News Reading Habit?
Intention to Read News
Most importantly, get started! To build a reading habit, you have to start first. If you don’t start, when will you get used to it? Spend about 10 minutes each day reading. Quoting from one of mentor of Zenius Education, Kak Rifad, “reading news is not as fun as scrolling videos on social media. But in 10 minutes, it’s guaranteed that in taking 10 minutes, at least you get useful insights to ‘survive’ for the next 10 days.”
Starting from the news that you think is interesting
One of the factors in not wanting to read the news is because the news presented by the media may be less relatable to you. By reading the news, you become aware of issues outside your life. Keep in mind that all themes and topics can be made news, so it is very likely that you will find your hobby on news portals. From there, you can start expanding your knowledge with other topics.
So if I read the news about the same issues, I’m still stuck in a bubble, right?
Not really! If you feel happy reading your favorite issues, it means that your bubbles are not hurting you. I only read light issues, does it include news? “Light” is very subjective. It’s not necessarily what you think is light, it’s also light in the eyes of other people. Who knows because it’s your hobby, you think that it’s trivial, but not always.
Starting the habit of reading news can be from things that are easy for you to digest, such as following the news of your favorite idols, news about the latest game launches, news on recommended books, and others. However, there are many hot issues that are a pity to miss. Every now and then, stop by to read topics that are unfamiliar to you, there’s nothing to lose!
